Toronto!

Why is it that fantastic opportunities seem to come at inopportune times? Last week I went on an exchange to Toronto with a grade 8 class as a chaperon. The trip was a lot of fun, and very interesting to see how the education system works in a different province. However, I was welcomed back home by an overwhelming stack of work that I was avoiding all week long.

Our trip involved a partnership with "Hillside Sr. Public School", a middle school in Mississauga, Ontario. The theme of the week was leadership, and the students had opportunities to engage in leadership activities in a variety of settings, and share what they have learned with some of the elementary schools in the area.

Now you can't go to the GTA without actually getting to downtown Toronto. We were lucky enough to get tours of the CN Tower, The Rogers Center, and the St. Lawrence Market and area in downtown Toronto.

Our adventures also took us to Niagara Falls, however, the weather was not cooperating. While we were right beside the falls, we were barely able to see this natural wonder due to heavy rain, mist and fog.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip. The students were able to interact with students from across the country, and we as teachers were able to share in some very interesting discussions on pedagogy, and the differences between SK and ON. We gained friends from the other side of the country, and will be very excited to see them when they come to visit Saskatchewan in mid-May.
